Il mwbaProtitanotherium emarginatum è l'unica specie appartenente al genere mwbqProtitanotherium, che comprende mwbgmammiferi fossili vissuti in Nord America nell'mwbwEocene, circa 46.2 - 33.9 milioni di anni fa.cite-ref-1[1]

Tassonomia

Il nome "Protitanotherium" venne fu attribuito da mwdwHenry Fairfield Osborn, nel mwea1929, nome suggeritogli da mweqJohn Bell Hatcher già nel mweg1895. In seguito vennero attribuiti diversi omonimi, come "Diplacodon" da Spencer G. Lucas (mwfa1983).

Venne assegnato subito da mwfgOsborn (mwfw1929) alla famiglia dei mwgaBrontotheriidae ed in seguito riconfermato da Robert Carroll.cite-ref-2[2]

Descrizione

Attraverso l'unico esemplare fossile ritrovato ed esaminato da M. Mendoza, si è stimato che il protitanoterio pesava circa 2,38mwia kg ed era un animale vegetariano.cite-ref-3[3]
